Book Title:Burn Fuel Better: From Helpless to Hopeful in the Race Against Climate Change
Donald Owens is a graduate of General Motors Institute (Currently Kettering University) and has an Mechanical/Electrical Engineering degree. He is also a graduate of Georgetown Law School. In the early 2000’s, he was experimenting with using hydrogen to see if it was possible to improve the fuel economy on an automobile that he owned. The objective had nothing to do with the environment, per se, because at the time, it was only to see if he could save money on gas by adding hydrogen to the combustion chamber. Although modest positive results were uncovered during personal testing, it ultimately lead to compresensive testing at engine testing labs in Southern California where he lived.
Ultimately, the testing showed that something called “Particulate Matter” emissions could be reduced in combustion engines by 50% or more if a small amount of hydrogen was included during combustion. It was later discovered that “Black Carbon” was the major component in particulate matter and was causing glacier melt throughout the planet.
About the Book:
“Black Carbon is the Enemy of the Planet”. The book is about identifying the fact that Black Carbon, a byproduct of burning fossil fuels, is the main culprit in causing global glacier melt and thus climate change. Very few people have even heard of black carbon and even less know about its effect on climate change and our planet. In the opinion of the author, Black Carbon is not just “A” cause of climate change, it is “THE” cause of climate change because of its direct cause of global glacier melt.
The book is designed to identify Black Carbon as the enemy of the planet in the minds of all human beings on earth that care about this planet. Although climate change seems like such a monumental problem beyond the reach of regular people, the book highlights the fact that the effects of black carbon can be minimized with a global collective effort of all caring human beings. Burn Fuel Better is about how we can use hydrogen, the most abundant substance in the universe to minimize and/or eliminate the effects of black carbon both in the present and in the future. “
